About the Post:

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Global Security & Technology to begin in winter semester 2019/20. The position is a W2 fixed-term position (6 years) with tenure track to a tenured W3 position (Associate Professor). The professorship is funded by the Federal Tenure Track Programme.
Responsibilities:
The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the support and promotion of early-career scientists. Candidate must be an expert in the research area of Global Security & Technology with an innovative transdisciplinary research agenda in political science, who engages with current issues in global security and the underlying new technologies (ideally with expertise in the field of cybersecurity or cooperation and conflict in security policy) in close cooperation with the thematically related departments of the TUM, such as the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the Department of Informatics or the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The teaching load includes courses in the university's bachelor´s and master´s programs. Successful candidate is expected to integrate technological aspects into political science in research and teaching. Inter- or transdisciplinary approaches are therefore considered an asset.

Qualifications:

Candidate should have demonstrated initial scientific achievements and the capacity for independent research at the highest international standards. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification as well as pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English and German, are also prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad, the proven ability to gain and to lead cooperative research projects and third-party funding, and an empirical and/or theoretical focus on the role of new technologies for security studies from an inter- or transdisciplinary perspective are expected.
