About the Program

SCDTP Studentship-Global Constitutionalism in an Era of Resurgent State Sovereignty in (Politics & International Relations)

A fully funded studentship awarded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) South Coast Doctoral Training Partnership (SCDTP) commencing in 2020/21 Academic Year. under the guidance of Dr. Jonathan Havercroft, Associate Professor in PAIR ([email protected]), Dr. Jacob Eisler, Associate Professor in Law, Dr. Haris Psarras, Lecturer in Law.
PhD students are sought to explore what impact the rise of populism, nationalism, and anti-globalization is having on global constitutionalism and its three foundational principles of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. The project should be at the intersection of law and international relations.

Skills Required
The student must have a background in one of the cognate disciplines of global constitutionalism (Law, Politics, and International Relations) and can demonstrate a familiarity with the relevant literatures of democracy, the rule of law, and human rights. The methodological approach is flexible although global constitutional scholarship is normally more qualitative using techniques such as documentary analysis, discourse analysis, conceptual analysis, and ethnography.
Funding
South Coast DTP Funding provides an annual maintenance grant (tax free) of £15,009 (2019/20 UKRI rate), plus payment of all programme fees.  Other funding available for SCDTP funded students can be found on the SCDTP website (www.southcoastdtp.ac.uk).
Funding is provided for 3 years full-time PhD study (pro-rata for part-time students).  Applications for 1+3 funding for students completing a Master's year prior to the commencement of PhD study are also welcome (details available at www.southcoastdtp.ac.uk).
