The IP & Innovation Researchers of Asia Network is organising the Second IP & Innovation Researchers of Asia (IPIRA) Conference, which will be held on 27 -28 February 2020 at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Indonesia, in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The Second IPIRA Conference is organized as a collaboration between the Faculty of Law, Universitas Indonesia as local host, Texas A&M University School of Law, the School of Law, University of Geneva, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and the World Trade Organization (WTO)..
Call for Papers
Academics and researchers who are interested in presenting at the Second IPIRA Conference can submit the request to present by responding to this Call for Papers.
The organizers welcome submissions by senior, mid-career, and junior academics. Submissions from a variety of disciplines, including legal scholars, economists, sociologists, scholars from the humanities, etc., are encouraged. All scholars writing on topics related to IP law-related issues in Asian law, international law, and comparative law are welcome to apply.
As its staple feature, the IPIRA Conference aims at gathering academics from Asia, Asia-Pacific, and beyond (including Europe, Africa, North and South America, etc.) and promoting discussion and interaction between them during the Conference.

Academics and researchers who are interested in presenting at the Second IPIRA Conference should email the following information at the address [email protected] :

  • A title and short abstract of the paper or work-in-progress (500 words or less) submitted to present as a Word or PDF attachment.  The submission should be in English.
  • The academic affiliation, including a short bio (200 words or less) as Word or PDF attachment. Note that applicants must be affiliated with a University or Research Center.
  • A recent picture as part of the bio.

Note that applications from students, including LL.M. students will not be accepted as the Conference is reserved for academics (full-time and part-time) and Ph.D. candidates.
The deadline to submit an abstract 30 October 2019.
notifications of acceptance by the end of  November 2019. Accepted applicants will need to confirm their participation to the Conference no later than 15 December 2019.
.Conference Schedule 
The Second IPIRA Conference will start on Thursday, 27 February 2020, at 9 a.m., and continue until 6.30 p.m. A dinner will conclude the first day. The Conference will resume on Friday, 28 February 2020, at 9 a.m., and continue until 6.30 p.m. (inclusive of tea and lunch breaks). There will be a farewell reception to conclude the Conference..
Workshop on Current Research Topics
The scientific organizers of the Second IPIRA Conference plan to hold a half-day Workshop on Current Research Topics for interested participants to the Conference the day after the Conference. The Workshop will take place during the morning of Saturday, 29 February 2020 (tentatively from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.).
The Workshop will be held in addition to the Conference. Specific details on the format and how to sign up to attend the Workshop will be announced in November 2019.  
There will be no registration fee or any other costs associated with attending the Second IPIRA Conference and the Workshop on Current Research Topics. In addition, participants will enjoy complimentary refreshments, lunch, and dinner during the two days of the Conference, and refreshments the day of the Workshop.
However, all presenters must cover their own travel-related and accommodation expenses. They will also be responsible for obtaining and covering the costs related to their travel visa and any other necessary travel documents..
Limited Financial Assistance 
The organizers will try to secure funds to partially assist a limited number of researchers with financial needs to attend the Second IPIRA Conference. 
Researchers from developing countries in Asia who cannot otherwise secure funds for travel can submit a request for partial assistance to attend the Conference jointly with the submission of their application to present at the Conference, and no later than 30 October 2019.
